more than meets the eye...

The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) was established on April 2001. The main aim of this Centre is to provide professional development training towards enhancing and upgrading excellent teaching and learning practices among academic staff of the university.

The centre also plays a major role in providing the staff and students of the university with the necessary e-learning infrastructure in terms of multimedia courseware, expertise advice and technical know how.

Another major role of the Teaching and Learning Centre is to conduct teaching performance assessment every semester. The aim of the assessment is to improve the standard of teaching among academic staff of the university.

As a centre of excellence, TLC plays a major and significant role in assisting our academic staff to improve on their teaching and learning knowledge and skills. In line with the university’s philosophy of life long learning the centre conducts numerous professional development programmes throughout the year filled with lectures, workshops, field trips, seminars and demonstrations both within and beyond the campus ground.

13 OBJECTIVES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING CENTRE

To offer professional staff development programmes which are related to effective teaching and learning
To support the integration of information and communication technology in teaching and learning to improve the creativity of the process
To implement the evaluation of lecturer's teaching
To support the production of teaching and learning materials
To provide necessary infrastructure to improve the quality of teaching and learning
To provide necessary infrastructure for teaching and learning materials development
To observe the implementation and effectiveness of training activities
To give support in technical assistance such as equipment and advice
To support teaching and learning skills to produce independent students
To encourage the development of comprehensive, conducive and quality teaching and learning infrastructure
To recommend established organizational structure for teaching and learning parallel with the needs of the university
To give information about knowledge and practices related to teaching and learning
To carry out community service activities in order to improve teaching and learning
