A Smooth Running of UTHM Student Representative Council (SRC) Election 2008/2009
BATU PAHAT Jan. - The election of the University's SRC was held on 8 January 2009 at four different selected venues; Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Hall, City Campus, Melewar Residential College and Perwira Residential College. 16 candidates contested in the election to win 7 general chairs. 13 chairs contested by the faculties were won without contest.
The election which started from 9:00 a.m until 4:30 p.m was done via e-voting. This has made the election process went smoothly and without delay. At 5:00 p.m, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student's Affairs and Alumni), YBhg. Prof. Ir. Dr. Amir Hashim bin Mohd Kassim announced the election's results.
One of the winners, Hanif Adnan, a student from the Faculty of Technology Management has promised to set up a service counter to enable students to raise any problems they have and he would also like to concentrate on the transportation problem faced by the off-campus students. He will try his best to realize the idea initiated by our Vice-Chancellor in his dialogue session with the students whereby he suggested a coupon system be introduced to upgrade the quality of the transportation services.
Meanwhile, another winner Solihah Ilias, a student from the Faculty of Technical Education is also determined to develop a close relationship between the students and the top University's management through dialogue sessions which will be held from time to time. This will not only strengthen the SRC's management, but will also boost the effectiveness of communication and information channels to all students.
The SRC's newly appointed members are expected to hold big responsibilities especially when UTHM will be the host for this year's IPTA Students' Representative Council Convention which will be held in May 2009. Congratulations to all the winners and it is hoped that the IPTA SRC Convention will be as a benchmark to evaluate their true capabilities and potentials as students' leaders.
