UTHM Debaters Excel at EWU 5th AUDC 2009

BANGLADESH: Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) emerged as champion in the Asian Universities Debating Championship (EWU AUDC 2009) in EFL category (English as a Foreign Language). Hosted by East West University, this year's event was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 14 to 20 May 2009.

AUDC is Asia's largest and the most prestigious debating tournament where debaters & adjudicators of different universities from different parts of Asia participate in this championship. A total of 58 teams from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines competed against each other in the initial round before the best 8 were selected for the quarterfinal.

According to Mr. Abdul Malik bin Ibrahim from UTHM Student Affairs Office, this achievement proves that UTHM debaters can compete and shine at international level. The victory was made possible by dedicated debaters of UTHM; Jaremy Lim, Melvin Samuel dan Agilarajan a/l Selverajah, from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. In the final round UTHM defeated Universiti Bina Nusantara, Indonesia after a heated debating session.
