Second place for UTHM Cultural Officer at Merdeka Poem Recital Competition 2009

JOHOR BAHRU - UTHM Cultural Officer Muhammad Shahrin bin Haron finished second in the 23^rd  Merdeka Poem Recital Competition 2009, at Johor state level.  The competition which was held at Plaza Kota Raya, Johor Bahru on 13 June 2009 was a long waited competition by all the participants throughout Malaysia.

Muhammad Shahrin recited a poem from an anthology of Jamung Merdeka entitled Gemuruh Langit Kita written by Norhisham Mustaffa. The competition was judged by representatives of Persatuan Penulis Negeri Johor.  38 participants from all the districts in Johor competed in the event organized by Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, Johor.

The winner this year was a participant from Mersing who will be representing Johor at the national level competition in Kuala Lumpur on 14 - 18 August 2009. Meanwhile, a participant from Kota Tinggi won the third place.

Congratulations to Muhammad Shahrin bin Haron on his success. It is hoped that with his winning, other UTHM staff will be inspired to participate in other competitions held by various agencies from both government and private sectors.
