UTHM Now Has Two Pro-Chancellors
The Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, was proclaimed the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) by his father, the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, at the UTHM 9th Convocation on Thursday. With this proclamation, UTHM now has two Pro-Chancellors.
This proclamation will strengthen the leadership hierarchy of UTHM. Another Pro-Chancellor is Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ir. Shamsudin Abdul Kadir. The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, is the University’s Chancellor.
The Tunku Mahkota, Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim who was born on June 30, 1984 in Johor Baharu, is the eldest of six siblings. He received his military training at the well-known Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun India.
While in India, Tunku Ismail made a history when he was the only foreigner selected to lead the 61st Cavalry Regiment stationed in Jaipur, India, in conjunction with Republic Day on Jan 26, 2007.
Tunku Ismail is a highly skilled equestrian and polo player who is respected in the regiment. In polo sports, Tunku has won many championships and trophies at international level.
Meanwhile, Tan Sri Dato 'Seri Ir. Shamsudin, who was born in Ipoh, Perak, is the founder and chairman of Sapura Holdings Sdn. Bhd. Ltd. Prior to his appointment as Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato ' Seri Ir. Shamsudin was the first Chairman of UTHM Board of Directors and held the post for eight years.
UTHM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato 'Dr. Mohd Noh Dalimin in a statement said "The University feels overwhelmed and is highly grateful to the Sultan of Johor for proclaiming the Tunku Mahkota of Johor as UTHM Pro-Chancellor. I am confident that contributions and ideas from Tunku Mahkota of Johor and Tan Sri Dato 'Seri Ir. Shamsudin as Pro-Chancellors will be able to drive the University to greater heights in the years to come. "
