INTRODUCTION


The Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education (FTVE) of the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), was formally known as the Faculty of Technical Education (FTek).  

Our renowned excellences in Teachers Training in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TT-TVET) niche areas is traceable back  to the year 1993 when we started as one of the core departments  of the  Polytechnics Staff Training Centre (PSTC) that produced qualified polytechnics lecturers and instructors.  PSTC was upgraded and renamed as Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn (KUiTTHO) on May 1998. On May 27th. 2000, the department was restructured and renamed as the Department of Technical and Vocational Education (DTVE) under  the auspices of the Faculty of Engineering Technology, KUiTTHO. On May 1st. 2004, the department was upgraded as the Faculty of Technical Education with the dissolution of Department of Engineering Technology. The rebranding of the faculty to the present new name, is endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education on June 23rd. 2011, to reflect our continuous and significant contributions to the rapid changes and transformation of the Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) Systems, both locally and abroad.

VISION


To educate and train world class, competitive professional human capital in the various discipline, to explore, expand and apply knowledge and modern technologies, in TVET based on tauhidic paradigm.

MISSION


To educate and train world class, competitive  professional human capital in the various discipline within the technical and vocational education, to explore, expand and apply knowledge and modern technologies, based on the concept of Tauhid.

OBJECTIVE


The primary objectives of the Faculty are:

  • To offer quality programmes in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
  • To conduct research and offers contemporary academic findings in TVET.
  • To establish a resources centre and offers technical expertise in TVET.
  • To be the leader in the teaching and learning methodology and the production of teaching and learning materials in TVET.
  • To accelerate the professional quality of research among UTHM academia and supporting staff.
  • To support the development of professionalism of human capital within the sectors of TVET.
  • To provide societal services in TVET.
  • To upgrade expertises and competencies in TVET in line with the national human capital transformation programmes.
  • To published quality academic materials for improving the provision of nationwide TVET.

FUNCTION


   

The functions  and responsibilities of the faculty members are closely tied towards fulfilling the vision, mission and objectives of the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education through fulfilling eight areas of academic activities, as the following - The functions  and responsibilities of the faculty members are closely tied towards fulfilling the vision, mission and objectives of the faculty as well as eight areas of academic activities listed below:

 

1.1.     Teaching and Learning:

To carry out quality and suitable students centered teaching and learning approaches in TVET. 

1.2     Research and Development

To conduct education industry needs focused research and development based on contemporary needs for innovative and creative products of the education and education-related production industries.

1.3           Academic Writings and Publications.

To inculcated a more creative and innovative academic writings and publications activities in TVET.

1.4           Consultancies

To generate smart industries and faculty partnership that enhances expertise, knowledge, skills and expertise in TVET.

1.5           Lifelong Learning

To inculcated the participation in lifelong learning through seminars, colloquiums, forum and professional developments workshops in TVET.

1.6           Staff Developments:

To develop a holistic human capital development activities in TVET.

1.7           Community and Social Services:

To foster a sustainable local community-faculty relationship.

1.8           Internationalization:

To foster regional and international cooperation through programmes such as students exchange, academia exchange, research and development activities to enhance the competitiveness of the faculty.

LABORATORY FACILITIES


Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education has provided various modern and state-of-the-arts facilities for teaching and learning. These laboratory facilities are administered by the departments of the faculty and being clustered according to their respective specialization, namely the Laboratories of Professional Education Department, the Laboratories of Engineering Education Department, and the Laboratories of Vocational Education Department.

Department of Vocational Education

The Department of Vocational Education  was just established in the year 2012. As the youngest department of the faculty, for the moment we are sharing  the exisiting expertise, staff and laboratories facilties with the other departments in the faculty.  All of these laboratories  comply with DOSH safety guidelines and are in the process of being commissioned to conduct Malaysia Skills Certification (MSC/ SKM) programmes.  These laboratories are the following;
